The EXTRA Program
A pilot program started in 2010.

EXTRA is a competitive soccer program designed to provide a more challenging level of play for those players who possess the appropriate interest, skills, and abilities to compete at a higher level. Player development is a primary focus of EXTRA. The number of teams a Region fields in EXTRA is limited so as not to negatively impact the regular fall program with respect to qualified coaches and trained referees.

Teams compete in a gaming circuit administered by AYSO Section 10, competing against teams from other Regions within the Section. Typically, teams play a 10-12 game fall season followed by a League Cup. Play is conducted on both Saturdays and some Sundays with teams playing about 50% of their games at their host Region. Some EXTRA teams transition into tournament teams after League Cup.

Saugus Region 46 is part of the greater AYSO Section 10. For Section 10 information on the EXTRA Program Guidelines and General Information please click below.
Purpose and Philosophies
AYSO EXTRA, a PROGRESSIVE PLAYER PROGRAM, is designed for players who have the interest, skills and abilities and want to enhance their experience and individual growth through soccer while retaining the spirit of and organization membership in AYSO. EXTRA is not designed to overshadow or harm the standard primary program – rather the goal is to strengthen AYSO by recruiting and retaining players and volunteers through providing more competitive play the AYSO way – all EXTRA programs embrace the Six Philosophies of AYSO.

Refund Policy
Please consider thoughtfully whether the Region 46 Extra Program is right for your child for the upcoming Fall season before you commit to the team. Extra teams are formed through a tryout process, unlike the AYSO core teams. Players are selected to each Extra team and asked to make a commitment for the Fall season. Conversely, those who do not make the roster are informed that they did not make the team. After the player selection process and rosters are put together, it is very difficult for Extra teams to find Extra level players later during spring and summer, if their team loses players. For these reasons and others, please understand that our Extra program has a strict refund policy as stated below.

Refund policy: Players are entitled to a full refund up until April 30. From April 30- May 15, if a player drops, they are entitled to 70% of the refundable player fees minus any non-refundable fees. Uniform costs are nonrefundable once ordered. No refunds after May 15.
